One Month Old

Tomorrow Lucy will be one month old!  I can't believe it!!

She is doing really well right now.  To be honest I am scared to call and check on her or even walk to her bed sometimes because she is doing so well and I am afraid of bad news.  You always hear the whole 1 step forward, 2 steps back thing in NICU.  The last couple of weeks she has done really great and I love getting good news, but I let myself worry about something setting her back.  Hopefully though, she will just continue to do well and we can go home before her due date!!  :)

She is currently on 1 liter nasal cannula.  They next step is weaning her off completely.  She has done great so far with no issues and seems to be close to ready to just do it all on her own.  Maybe in a few days!  :)

She is over the 3 pound mark now...3lbs, 2.8oz as of last night.  This is the same that Mason weighed when he was born, so it is sort of a milestone to me.  I am starting to feel like she is a little less fragile!!  :)

Today we got to start dressing her and wrapping her in a blanket so that she can regulate her own body temperature rather than the bed doing it for her.  The next step is a regular baby "box" or bed once she gets that down.  I have to say...dressing her is going to be fun!

Also today I talked with the OT about cue-based feeding.  Meaning, we will try a bottle when Lucy shows cues that she is ready (alert, waking before feeding time, rooting, wanting pacifier, etc).  We talked about trying sometime in the next week or so.  When I went in a 3:00 today she started crying and opening her mouth for her pacifier, so we called the OT over and she experimented with her first bottle today.  I was shocked!!  And Lucy had a great experience and even drank a little bit.  The whole suck, swallow, breath thing is hard for preemies to accomplish all at one time, but she did awesome for her first go at it.

She also got a bath in her little tub today but I was a few minutes too late to see that.  :( Next time!

She had a VERY busy day with lots of stimulation, but she was being a champ with it all.  Preparing for a big brother I assume!

Anyway, she is doing so good!

Things to pray for:
-She will have another brain scan tomorrow to check the bleed.  Pray that it is GONE or at least smaller.
-She had an eye exam Tuesday and will have a follow-up in 2 weeks to make sure her vessels are growing correctly.  Pray her eyes are growing in a normal way.
-She had another amino acid blood draw done Monday, just as a follow-up on the PKU stuff.  The last one came back a tiny bit elevated, but nothing too crazy.  Her newborn screen from another place came back "normal" this time, as I mentioned before.  Praying this one comes back even lower on the amino acid test.
-Pray that she continues to breath well on her own, eat well (and want her bottles), and regulate her body temperature.  These are the things she HAS TO do in order to come home.  We still have several weeks to accomplish all of this, but she is doing awesome.
-Pray for no major setbacks.
-Pray for the awesome NICU staff and doctors.
-There are 2-3 sick babies in the NICU right now.  Pray for them and their families.  And the "not sick" babies too!
-Pray that I won't worry about a setback and just enjoy that she is doing so good!  :)

Okay, sorry for picture overload...
